Jonathan Herland DSc MD

Dr. Herland earned his bachelor’s degree in applied biology at M.I.T.  His interest in human capabilities led him to earn a Doctor of Science in exercise physiology at Boston University.  His dissertation investigated effects of endurance training on fat metabolism in the middle aged and elderly.  His post-doctoral research at Brigham and Women's Hospital/Harvard Medical School focused on effects of anesthetics on heart muscle.  He then earned his M.D. at University of Massachusetts Medical School.  His residency was in anesthesiology at Massachusetts General Hospital followed by pain management fellowship at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center.  He moved to Maine in 2000 where he now focuses on providing interventional pain management to underserved rural communities. In his spare time, he is a fitness enthusiast, frequently extolling the virtues of regular exercise as beneficial to health in general and chronic pain in particular. He enjoys cross country skiing and line dance.

William Head, PA

Cary Medical Center

Mr. Head is a well-established clinician in in the Lincoln and Calais communities.  He has extensive experience in primary care and cardiac stress testing.  He earned his bachelor’s degree in Psychology from University of New Hampshire, followed by Master of Divinity in Chaplaincy at Andover Newton Theological College. He later earned Associate of Science in Paramedic at Concord Technical Institute. He became certified Physician Assistant at Wake Forest University Medical School. He joined our practice in 2015 and has been instrumental in developing our service in Washington and eastern Penobscot counties.

  Lori Bishop, AGACNP-C

Cary Medical Center

Ms. Bishop is a board certified Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, with certification from American Association of Critical-Care Nurses.  She graduated from Walden University in 2021 with Master of Science in Nursing.  Previous to that she graduated from the University of Maine Fort Kent with my Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2017, and from Northern Maine Community College with Associate Degree in Nursing in 2006.  Ms. Bishop has 16 years’ experience as an emergency room Registered Nurse, and still picks up call shifts from Cary Medical Center ER.​ 

​After working in the emergency room for 16 years, she saw a lot of patients who appeared to fall through the cracks of primary care in regards of treatment for their chronic pain issues.  She pursued working in the pain clinic because she wants to help these same patients.  These patients need to be seen and heard, so they can live their lives to the fullest.

Kim has diverse experiences. She graduated from Husson University in Bangor in 2013 with Master of Science in Family & Community Nursing Practitioner. She earned Bachelors of Science in Nursing from University of Maine at Fort Kent in 2010 and Associates of Science in Nursing (RN) from University of Maine at Augusta in 1998. Kim also has RNFA (registered nurse first assistant) and CNOR (certification in the operating room).

Crystal is a board certified and licensed Physician Assistant with comprehensive clinical experience in orthopedic, geriatric, palliative care, and family healthcare settings.  She earned Master of Science/ Physician Assistant in 2008 at Le Moyne College in New York, Bachelor of Science in Biology (Summa Cum Laude) in 2005 at SUNY Oneonta, where she earned several awards for academic accomplishment. She has clinical certifications in wound care, ACLS/BLS, child abuse and maltreatment, and infection control.  She has delivered scholarly presentations on breast feeding and on acute lymphoblastic leukemia.  In her spare time, Crystal has written poetry, tutored, and done community outreach to benefit inner city teens and to benefit the disabled.  She joined our practice in May 2018 at Mayo Regional Hospital in Dover-Foxcroft.

Deborah Schleich NP

Calais Community Hospital 

Deborah brings over a decade of interventional pain management experience and over two decades of clinical experience to Calais. She is board certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, earned her Masters of Science in Nursing in 2009 and her Bachelors of Science in Nursing in 1997 at Saint Francis Medical Center.  She joined our practice March 2021 at Calais Community Hospital, and also practices at Penobscot Valley Hospital in Lincoln and Inland Hospital in Waterville.

Andrea Sewall FNP-C

Andrea joined the practice this year and is new to the pain management specialty.  Andrea attended Husson College in 2003 and earned her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing.  She then returned to Husson College for her graduate degree and in 2007 graduated with her masters degree with a concentration in family and community medicine.  She has clinical expertise in family practice, occupational health, and acute care.

 

 Andrea is currently the manager of the Millinocket Regional Hospital Walk-In clinic where she works full-time as a walk-in care provider as well as providing occupational health services to many of the surrounding local businesses.  Andrea has added pain management to her current role and performs consultations and follow-up visits for pain patients.  Andrea also works as a per diem provider in Bangor at an urgent care center and is certified as a medical examiner.

Lisa Cooke MBA, CPA

Sr Financial Analyst Director of Operations

Ms. Cooke has extensive experience in financial analysis & reporting, accounting and operations.  Previously, she worked for EJP Capital as Investment Specialist, for Silicon Motions as Director of Sales Operations and for Hewlett Packard as Financial Analyst. She earned MBA from Santa Clara University and a dual degree in Economics & Chemistry from Nanjing University, China and studied Business Management at Johns Hopkins University. In recognition of high scholastic achievement, she has been selected for membership in Beta Gamma Sigma the honor society.
